Just wondering if any of yous are in 20's or 30's with barretts?? I'm 28 and newly diagnosed and it seems to be unheard of for this age group to have barretts

Hi Dlint,

Certainly not me and I am sure there are not too many in the 20-30 age bracket with Barretts. But wait and see how many replies you get.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Lazy.

Hiya - Not quite as young as you but am 38. Suspect I have had it for a while though. Hope you are doing ok? Have just had surgery for mine so happy to chat if it helps at any point.

Hey

I got you beat! I'm only 25. It's a pretty daunting prospect being diagnosed at this age. I was diagnosed in October last year aged 24 but have no dysplasia (or however you spell that word!). Hopefully you are as symptom free as I am, I take my Omeprazole and don't get any issues.

Glad to hear that it is going smoothly for you David. I am sure if they keep a careful eye on you that all will be well. Do think about having a good look at the nutritional advice as I suspect at your age there is a lot you can do to avoid problems by following a good diet. I'm far from being an expert having only fairly recently been diagnosed myself but I would thought it would have to be worth it for you. Good luck and hopefully you will keep it under good control.

Hi thanks for reply. Have been on nexium for 2yrs, still getting bit of reflux, worried how long it stays at metaplasia stage? Cut caffeine out of diet which helped a lot. Trying to get an idea of what my 'safe foods are'. What surgery did u have?

Yeah every 18 months to 2 years. If I haven't had another one by June next year, so 15 months from now, I have to get back in touch.  I am also going to see the specialist every six months. I go back there in June this year. It isn't a great diagnosis at this age but it could have been worse.

It is very frustrating since I have been semi teetotal for a few years now anyway, without even knowing I had this problem. I've also never smoked. Basically I already tick all of the 'things you can change in your life to help' boxes already. Which, I guess means I haven't noticed much of a difference in lifestyle.

I'm waiting to see the consultant, hope it's soon. I lead a relatively healthy lifestyle and cut caffeine out 2years ago which helped a lot but my scope was clear two yrs ago but not this time. Don't understand! Thanks for ur reply, it has helped a lot. A lot to take in cos of our age, that's my biggest concern
